When is the best time to visit Looe in Cornwall?
This is a question that we are often asked at 'ilovelooe'. The simple answer is that anytime is a good time to visit. People come to Looe for many reasons, be it fishing, walking, photography, sailing or simply to sit on the beach and soak up the sun, Looe has something for everyone.
High Season
Looe, not surprisingly, is busiest in the middle of the summer, during the school holidays (second half of July, August and first week of September). At this time you can expect the main streets, the beach, the shops, restaurants and car parks to be very busy. The crowds bring life to the place but if you don’t like crowds avoid this high season period.
There are parking restrictions from the end of May until the end of September.
Low season
If you want to avoid the crowds, visit Looe during the 'low season' - October to April. During these quiet times you can really appreciate what Looe has to offer. Wander around the charming narrow streets, enjoy a quiet drink over-looking the harbour and sample the culinary delights of our super restaurants.
New Year
According to the Sunday Times, Looe is one of the top four spots in Britain to celebrate New Year’s Eve - huge numbers of people in fancy dress fill the pubs, restaurants and streets of this small town and have a great time. Weather permitting, the night is capped off by a fireworks display on the Banjo pier at midnight. Prime spots to view this are the promenade/beach at East Looe or the eastern end of Hannafore promenade.
