Please note that this page will be rewritten in 2016 as a general guide to restaurants in Looe.

I am no longer providing listings to businesses in Looe due to time constraints and viability. A big thank you to all the local restaurants who have supported iLovelooe in the past, I wish you all the very best in the future.

Eating out, in Looe

Although the Looe fishing fleet is much diminished from its heyday in the 16th century, when crabs and pilchards were the order of the day, the Looe fleet is still busy enough to warrant its own quayside market. Although catches are much smaller now, in May 2012 one recorded catch listed:

  • brill
  • cod
  • cuttlefish
  • dory
  • Dover sole
  • gurnard
  • haddock
  • lemon sole
  • ling
  • mackerel
  • megrims (sole)
  • monk

Spoilt for choice

Much of these are purchased by local establishments and if you love fish, Looe is a great place to eat. With locally caught mussels, scallops, squid, monkfish, plaice and brill on the menu you’ll be spoilt for choice.

Of course fish is not the only food on the menu. Locally reared beef is very popular, locally prepared in a variety of ways from steaks and joints to stews and casseroles such as Cornish beef & wild mushrooms ‘sozzled’ in red wine!

Other locally reared meats include chicken, pork, lamb, wild fowl and game. Combined with seasonal vegetables and fresh potatoes, it’s no wonder the locals and visitors of Looe are spoilt for choice.

Looe is definitely not all about fish. Explore East and West Looe and you will find restaurants offering you a wide range of delicious foods from all around the world. Here’s a selection:
