Nelson the One-Eyed Grey Seal

Nelson unveiled! Nelson the one-eyed grey seal was unveiled in Looe today as a life size sculpture.

On an overcast day, with hundreds of onlookers, Nelson the one-eyed grey seal made his return to Looe to sit triumphantly upon Pennyland Rocks in Looe harbour.

Created by Suzie Marsh and unveiled by Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, the life size sculpture of Nelson will be admired by locals and visitors for years to come and remind us all what natural wonders lay just off the Cornish coast.

Although hard to hear what the officials and Sir Robin had to say, the event went off without a hitch and included a very low fly past by a Royal Navy helicopter which caught most of us by surprise.

When you get a chance, pop into Looe and see what you think. If you want a close up you’ll need to go over to West Looe and walk along the river’s edge towards the sea. You can’t miss him!
