Polperro Festival 2014

Looe EventsMorning all.

Now we all know that Looe is packed with events all year round but did you know that our wonderful and picturesque neighbour Polperro, holds its own festival, the Polperro Festival, every year too?

I will be going this week and if you fancy it too, read more and then check out Polperro Festival’s website where all dates, times, events and venues are listed.

It’s going to be an amazing week… weather’s looking good too 🙂

So enough from me here’s a guest blog post from Lisa Woollett who featured in the iLoveLooe iMag talking about her wonderful book, ‘Sea and Shore Cornwall’. For more about Lisa, visit her website www.photographsofthesea.com

Polperro Festival 2014

The Polperro Festival has begun! I am writing this after meeting a number of people yesterday – dancing to funky ska on Big Green – who asked, ‘How come we didn’t know about this?’

Polperro

Celebrating midsummer with nine days of music, drama, dance, art & comedy, almost all the entertainment is free. This year there are lots of new people involved and a great atmosphere in the village, helped along by forecasts of sunshine throughout…and parking reduced to £4 a day.

Festivities every day

Festivities take place every day on Big Green and around the village. There are some great bands and musicians this year, from samba and gypsy folk to blues, funk, R&B, Celtic punk and rockabilly. There are steam punk pirates and zumba classes, drama workshops, choirs, pantomime, shanty singers and a samba procession, as well as Buskers Monday (all musicians welcome), Arts & Crafts Thursday and Foodie Friday.

Activities for children at Polperro Festival

There’s much more for children and families this year, with children’s activities, workshops and entertainment every afternoon from 4-6pm on the upper fish quay (outside Polperro Arts Foundation), including t-shirt painting and percussion and instrument making workshops. Alongside this is the 2nd where you can paint a square with tuition in acrylics from local artist Sue Lord.

Free live music at Polperro Festival

Free live music continues into the night every evening in Polperro’s pubs, including:

  • The Crumplehorn
  • The Blue Peter
  • The Ship
  • The Three Pilchards.

Some of the musicians, bands and entertainers include:
